Feedlots bring out their finest for live cattle showKansas Cattlemen and women and their best feedlot cattle converged at the Finney County Fairgrounds May 30, hoping to be named champion in the 2007 Beef Empire Days Live Show. This year's live show judge was Clint Rusk. Rusk evaluated 102 steers and 87 heifers. In the steer show, Danner Chi Angus of Muscatine, Iowa, received top honors with steer #149 weighing 1275 pounds. Midwest Feeders Inc. of Ingalls, Kan., was second with a 1300 pound steer, and Hy-Plains Feedyard of Montezuma, Kan., placed third with a steer weighing 1170 pounds. Henry C. Hitch Feedlot Inc. of Guymon, Okla., received first place in the heifer division with heifer #504 weighing 1280 pounds. Supreme Cattle Feeders of Kismet, Kan., placed second with a 1255 pound entry and Danner Chi Angus Ranch of Burwell, Neb., finished third with a 1275 pound heifer. Competition will continue later in the week as the animals are processed and evaluated on their carcass merit.
