Wheat crop rated mostly good, excellent

Colorado

During the week ending June 10, Colorado experienced below average amounts of precipitation, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Colorado Field Office, June 11.

Temperatures across the state were below normal for this time of year as well. Reports of freezing temperatures in the San Luis Valley have damaged the crops in that area. Producers had an average of 6.0 days suitable for fieldwork.

Winter wheat was 98 percent headed, 33 percent turning color, and 5 percent ripe last week. The crop is rated in mostly good to excellent condition. Spring barley is in mostly good to excellent condition. Spring wheat was 7 percent headed by week's end with the crop in mostly good condition.

sorghum was 64 percent planted and 20 percent emerged last week with the crop in mostly good condition. Sunflowers were 67 percent planted. Dry onions continue to be rated in mostly good condition. Summer potatoes were 77 percent emerged with the crop in mostly excellent condition. Fall potato planting finished up last week with 39 percent of the crop emerged. The crop is rated in mostly good condition. corn was 92 percent emerged with the crop in mostly good condition. Sugarbeets were at 99 percent up to stand by the end of the week and in mostly good condition. Dry beans were 61 percent planted and 30 percent emerged with the crop in mostly good condition.

First cutting alfalfa was 54 percent complete by the end of the week. The crop is rated in mostly good condition.

Pasture and range conditions improved last week. They were rated in mostly good to fair condition last week.

Death losses for cattle and sheep were rated at average for the week. Livestock condition is rated in mostly good to excellent. Stored feed supplies continue to be rated below average for this time of year.
