OKC West cattle sales
The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 4,438 head June 13, compared to 5,447 head last week and 7,118 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were steady to $2 higher, except 850- to 900-pound steers were $1 to $2 lower. The calf market was not well tested but a stronger undertone was noted. Demand was very good for feeder cattle despite the sharp decline in cattle futures and sharp advance made in the grain futures again. Several buyers present as many barns in the west are closed down for wheat harvest. Several nice loads of feeder cattle available in slightly thin to moderate flesh conditions. Weigh-ups were average to full. The supply included 91% over 600 pounds, 7% under 600 pounds, 2% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 37% of the total supply. Slaughter cows were mostly $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were $2 to $3 lower. Packer demand was moderate for lighter receipts. A total of 115 cows and bulls sold with 51% going to packers.
