OKC West cattle sales

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 4,438 head June 13, compared to 5,447 head last week and 7,118 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were steady to $2 higher, except 850- to 900-pound steers were $1 to $2 lower. The calf market was not well tested but a stronger undertone was noted. Demand was very good for feeder cattle despite the sharp decline in cattle futures and sharp advance made in the grain futures again. Several buyers present as many barns in the west are closed down for wheat harvest. Several nice loads of feeder cattle available in slightly thin to moderate flesh conditions. Weigh-ups were average to full. The supply included 91% over 600 pounds, 7% under 600 pounds, 2% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 37% of the total supply. Slaughter cows were mostly $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were $2 to $3 lower. Packer demand was moderate for lighter receipts. A total of 115 cows and bulls sold with 51% going to packers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, 420 lbs., fleshy 128.00; 425 to 450 lbs., 130.00 to 140.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 116.00 to 124.00; 625 to 700 lbs., 106.00 to 109.00; yearlings, package 625 lbs., 121.00; lot 695 lbs., 111.75; 700 to 800 lbs., 107.75 to 112.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 102.50 to 108.75; 850 to 900 lbs., 100.00 to 103.75; 900 to 950 lbs., 98.50 to 103.25; few 950 to 960 lbs., 97.00 to 97.50; 1000 to 1075 lbs., 94.00 to 95.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 695 lbs., 108.50; 725 to 800 lbs., 105.25 to 109.50; 825 to 900 lbs., 100.00 to 104.00; 900 to 925 lbs., 97.50 to 99.00. Medium and large frame 2, 500 to 600 lbs., 115.00 to 119.00; 680 lbs., 108.00; 785 lbs., 108.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 97.25 to 102.75.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, 400 to 500 lbs., 113.00 to 117.00, lot 465 lbs., fancy 129.50; lot 580 lbs., 109.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 95.00 to 102.00; yearlings, 600 to 700 lbs., 103.75 to 109.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 99.00 to 102.25; 800 to 900 lbs., 93.50 to 99.75; lot 910 lbs., 94.25. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 600 to 700 lbs., 101.25 to 104.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 95.00 to 101.25; 800 to 850 lbs., 92.50 to 96.75; 900 to 960 lbs., 86.00 to 92.75. Medium and large frame 2: 600 to 700 lbs., 96.50 to 103.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 94.50 to 100.00; 850 to 900 lbs., 91.75.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 18 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1050 to 1950 lbs., 51.00 to 54.00; high dressing, 54.50 to 57.50; low dressing, 46.50 to 50.00. Boners, 17 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1050 to 1550 lbs., 51.50 to 55.00; high dressing, 54.50 to 59.50; low dressing, 49.00 to 50.50. Lean, 6 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1450 lbs., 47.00 to 49.00; high dressing, 50.00 to 51.50. Light, 5 head, 80 to 90% lean, 900 to 1000 lbs., 51.00; low dressing, 44.00 to 45.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 8 head, 1300 to 2050 lbs., 62.00 to 65.50; high dressing, 66.50; low dressing, 55.00 to 59.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heifers, 950 to 1050 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average quality, 730.00; 6 to 7 years old, 1150 to 1275 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average to high blacks, 780.00 to 850.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 4 years old, 950 to 1050 lbs., with 100- to 250-lb. calves, average to high blacks, 1125.00 to 1200.00.
