Newell sheep sale report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Inc., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 361 head June 7, compared to 207 head last week and 1,179 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, trends were not applicable on all classes due to no comparable sales. Demand was moderate to good. Receipts included about 68% slaughter ewes, 30% feeder lambs, with the balance slaughter bucks and other miscellaneous sheep and goats.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 160 to 172 lbs., 29.00 to 30.00 (29.03). Good 3 to 4, 201 to 219 lbs., 18.00 to 21.50 (20.15). Utility 1 to 2, 48 head, 147 lbs., 27.50. Cull 1, 39 head, 133 lbs., 17.50.

Feeder lambs: Medium and Large 1 to 2, 37 head, 82 lbs., 110.00; 20 head, 94 lbs., 109.25 black face; 15 head, 105 lbs., 108.75. Medium frame 1 to 2, 6 head, 57 lbs., 116.00; 18 head, 85 lbs., 106.50.
