West Plains regional salesThe Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 4,156 head June 5, compared to 2,100 head last week and 5,747 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold $1 to $3 higher, with instances of $3 to $5 higher on 400- to 600-pound feeders. Receipts provided several drafts for every buyer from light weight high quality replacement heifers to pot loads of long time yearlings carrying the widely accepted paper work and the right condition to put a smile on the feedlot managers face. The supply was moderate to heavy. Demand was good with many buyers both farmers and feeders in attendance. The offerings consisted of 47% steers, 3% Holstein steers, 44% heifers, and 6% feeder bulls. Weights were evenly broken with 50% of the feeders on each side of 600 pounds.
