Range, pastures rated in mostly good to excellentMontana During the week ending June 3, Montana received moderate precipitation, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, June 4. Scobey received the most moisture for the week at 2.25 inches. Bozeman received 7.3 inches of snowfall on May 29, breaking the old record for that day of 4.0 inches set in 1892. The high temperature of 94 degrees was recorded in Superior while West Yellowstone had the low during the week of 20 degrees. Topsoil moisture adequate and surplus is 88 percent, down slightly from last week but ahead of last year and the five-year average. Subsoil moisture adequate and surplus, at 79 percent, is rated above last week, last year, and the five-year average. The number of days suitable for fieldwork was 3.0 days, up from last week's 2.6 days. Fields across the state remain wet due to above normal precipitation during most of April and May. The weather outlook for June 11 through June 17 is for below normal temperatures and above normal precipitation both east and west of the continental divide. Normal temperatures for this period in Montana are highs in the upper 60s to the upper 70s and lows in the mid 30s to the lower 50s. Nearly all of the state's crops are emerging faster than last year. Durum wheat is a little behind last year with 69 percent emerged this week and 75 percent last year. All of the small grain conditions are rated better than last year. Winter wheat is 4 percent headed, behind last year's 20 percent and the five-year average of 7 percent. Ranchers continue to move their livestock to summer pastures. Range and pasture feed condition good and excellent is 71 percent, up from last week as well as last year and the five-year average.
