Wheat Quality Council spring wheat, durum tour July 23 to 26

South Dakota

With all the problems happening in the southern plains states with the harvest, this might be a good year to get a handle on the potential of the spring wheat and durum crop. There will likely be a lot of discussion regarding the potential protein content of this crop since the crop down south appears to have generally lower protein than desired. If the spring wheat crop is as big as is being anticipated, protein premiums might be the order of the day when the '07 crop hits the market.

Due to continued wet conditions, there is already talk about the possibility of scab hitting the northern plains region. The past few days of very hot temperatures has probably alleviated the potential somewhat, but we will very likely see some major disease pressure in untreated fields.

This is your opportunity to see the spring wheat and durum crop with your own eyes and make your own evaluations about its potential. Please take advantage of this opportunity if you are at all interested in the condition of this crop.

You can get registration forms and other information on our website at www.wheatqualitycouncil.org, or by calling Ben Handcock at 605-224-5187.

The room blocks at the hotels will be released in the next few days, so please register as soon as possible.

Thank you for your support of our wheat tours.
