Tulia livestock market report

The Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 2,152 head July 2, compared to 2,446 head last week, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture News-USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers under 600 pounds were not enough to adequately test the market, however a lower undertone was noted. Steers over 600 pounds were steady to $1 lower, heifers over 600 pounds were steady to $2 lower. Quality was not as attractive as in the last several weeks, also several consignments showed moderate to fleshy condition. Slaughter cows were steady to $1 higher. Slaughter bulls not well tested. Trade was active. Demand was good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 950 pound feeder steers and heifers. Feeder cattle accounted for 95% and slaughter cows and bulls 5% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 73% of the run, heifers 27%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 87%.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 442 lbs., 132.00; package 668 lbs., 113.00, 600 to 700 lb. calves 102.50 to 107.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 107.00 to 109.50; 870 to 900 lbs., 100.25 to 101.50; load 979 lbs., 95.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 416 lbs., 115.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 103.00 to 110.00; lot 669 lbs., 111.50, 600 to 700 lb. calves 103.50 to 107.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 101.00 to 108.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 98.25 to 105.50, lot 813 lbs., fleshy 97.50; 900 to 950 lbs., 90.00 to 95.50. Medium and large frame 2, lot 518 lbs., 102.50. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, package 511 lbs., 95.00; package 883 lbs., 82.00. Large frame 3, package 764 lbs., 75.50; load 1102 lbs., 73.00. Small and medium frame 3 to 4, package 621 lbs., 68.00; package 798 lbs., 59.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 363 lbs., 115.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 114.00 to 115.00; package 513 lbs., 84.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 80.00 to 92.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 84.00 to 85.00; package 832 lbs., 85.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, package 289 lbs., 130.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 106.00 to 115.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 101.00 to 105.00; 675 to 700 lbs., 103.00 to 103.25, package 652 lbs., fleshy 94.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 97.00 to 98.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 483 lbs., 107.00; 590 to 600 lbs., 97.00 to 100.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 97.50 to 103.50, package 671 lb. calves 95.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 93.00 to 95.50. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, 650 to 700 lbs., 90.00 to 95.00. Small and medium frame 3 to 4, lot 541 lbs., 70.00; package 653 lbs., 69.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1600 lbs., 49.00 to 54.00; high dressing, 55.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 50.00 to 56.00; 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 49.50 to 53.25. Lean, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 47.50 to 51.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 44.50 to 48.50; 85 to 90% lean, under 800 lbs., 40.00 to 45.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1600 to 2050 lbs., 63.00 to 64.00, few.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged, 1200 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, 900.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged 1250 lbs., with 300-lb. calves, 875.00 per pair.
