Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 786 head July 2, compared to 1,174 head last week and 798 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold steady to $1 higher. Slaughter ewes sold mostly steady on a light test. Feeder lambs sold steady to firm, also on a light test. Receipts included about 45% slaughter lambs, 26% feeder lambs, 15% slaughter ewes and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 14 head, 120 lbs., 104.50; 6 head, 144 lbs., 104.00. Wooled Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 131 to 141 lbs., 104.00 to 105.50 (105.35). Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 113 to 127 lbs., 103.00 to 104.00 (103.59).

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 160 to 174 lbs., 23.50 to 28.00 (25.99). Good 2 to 4, 13 head, 200 lbs., 25.50. Utility and Good 1 to 3, 8 head, 173 to 187 lbs., 21.00 to 22.00 (21.64). Cull 1, 9 head, 137 to 139 lbs., 17.00 to 19.00 (18.10).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 52 to 57 lbs., 115.00 to 118.00 (116.57); 24 head, 69 lbs., 112.00; 84 to 85 lbs., 109.00 to 111.50 (111.00); 38 head, 90 lbs., 106.50. Medium and large frame 2, 71 to 74 lbs., 100.00 to 101.00 (100.85); 6 head, 83 lbs., 100.00.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 13 head, 34 lbs., 93.00; 9 head, 49 lbs., 99.00. Selection 1 to 2, 6 head, 46 lbs., 89.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1 to 2, 11 head, 97 to 112 lbs., 50.00 to 51.00 (50.42).
