No-till summer eventsNebraska No-till on the Plains, Inc., the premier no-till organization of the Midwest, is planning summer events which will provide farmers with ways to increase profitability, gain better agronomic understanding of soils and their reactions to fertility, and also increase efficiency with new rotations and sequencing of crops. Partially funded through a grant from the Nebraska Environmental Trust, No-till on the Plains offers these top-quality educational events. The Whirlwind No-till Expo is set for July 18 in Pender, Neb., with power-packed hands-on learning featuring expert speakers as well as experienced local no-tillers from the area. The day-long event will begin at 9 a.m., at the Randy Rink farm which is three miles east of Pender on Highway 94 to 20th Road, then one mile south. Another Expo will also be held later in the summer on Aug. 22 at the Brian and Keith Berns' farm one mile east of Bladen, Neb. The Expos will feature soil pits on-site and in-the-field demonstrations. These will be excellent opportunities to see the rainfall simulator in action and witness the impact that continuous no-till practices have on soil. A catered lunch will be provided to all attendees at both locations. "The Whirlwind Expo gives farmers an opportunity to learn about continuous no-till firsthand, to get their hands dirty on the farm of a successful no-till practitioner," says Brian Lindley, program coordinator of No-till on the Plains, Inc. "With this kind of meeting format, participants can ask questions of the experts and get immediate, practical answers." No-till on the Plains is a regional organization that reaches over 3,000 farmers yearly. The farmer-run group promotes practical and scientific application of continuous no-till farming.
