Win free groceries for a year

Colorado

From fresh produce and specialty foods to beef and lamb, Colorado produces a variety of products. To celebrate Colorado's bounty, Safeway is sponsoring a contest to give away free groceries for a year.

For complete rules and to enter the contest, visit www.9news.com and click on the Colorado Proud logo. Twelve $100 Safeway gift cards will be awarded July through October with the grand prize winner receiving a year's supply of groceries at Safeway (valued at $5200). In addition to the contest, consumers can find recipes, produce picking tips, a crop calendar and a searchable Colorado products directory online.

"We are excited to partner with Safeway to promote local products," said John R. Stulp, commissioner of the Colorado Department of Agriculture. "Everyone can help support Colorado agriculture throughout the year by buying products with the Colorado Proud logo and the 'Better for you. Better for Colorado' tag line."

Colorado Proud is encouraging people to buy local products through a summer television advertising campaign on Channel 9 in Denver and on Channel 11 in Grand Junction. The Colorado Proud television ad recently received the 2006 Colorado Broadcaster's Association Award for Excellence for Best Commercial Advertising Spot for an Advertiser, Any Length.

Colorado Proud was created by the Colorado Department of Agriculture in 1999 to promote locally grown, raised or processed products to consumers statewide. Currently, the program has more than 780 members that include growers, processors, restaurants, retailers and associations. For more information, visit www.coloradoproud.org.
