Outgoing chair Tom Mick, CEO of the Washington wheat Commission, will continue to serve on the Council's executive committee along with Hans Hayden, wheat producer and Idaho wheat Commission representative, and Betsy Faga, president North American Millers' Association. Wiemer has been employed at General Mills for 28 years. She also has extensive experience in providing direction to marketing and divisional research concerning nutrition issues and opportunities; coordinating product-related nutrition research studies and developing nutrition education materials and communication programs for health professionals and consumers. "Kathy has a long history with our organization and her nutrition expertise will prove a great asset to our leadership with her as board chair," said Marcia Scheideman M.S., R.D. and president of the wheat Foods Council. "The Council had many successes under Tom Mick's leadership, so we are proud to have him continue on in another capacity as well." During the June board meeting, the Council recapped a successful 06-07 program and began planning for the Council's 35th anniversary, which begins on July 1, 2007. Successes from the 2006/2007 program include 51 million impressions resulting from a comprehensive media relations campaign and a 12 percent website traffic increase over last fiscal year. The Council also introduced a blog, authored by Scheideman and sponsored by ADM, distributed a quarterly healthcare professional newsletter, funded grain-based research through the University of Virginia and produced the "Mom, the Everyday Athlete" nationwide run/walk. In 07-08, the Council will leverage the 35th anniversary while continuing to educate the public, media and influencers alike about the health benefits of grain-based foods. The Council prides itself in being a unified voice for the grain industry and will continue to develop programming to benefit all facets of the industry. Date: 7/19/07
