West Plains regional sales

The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 4,800 head July 17, compared to 5,415 head last week and 4,097 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold steady to $2 higher, with yearlings mostly $2 higher. The supply was moderate, quality, for the most part, was not as attractive as the previous sale. Demand was good, although with temperatures to heat up in the forecast, certainly best on weaned calves with respiratory shots and yearling cattle. Most buyers continued their business in a bullish mode, with box beef slightly stronger and $90 to $91 fat trade within the past week. Live cattle futures stronger with the October to April board closing $6 to $8 out front current cash at $96.67 to $98.95 and feeder contracts August to November closing up .47 to .67 cents and settling just on either side of $116. The supply consisted of 56% steers and 44% heifers, with nearly 51% weighed over 600 pounds.
