Texas wheat production up 329 percent from last year
Texas The 2007 Texas winter wheat crop is forecast at 144 million bushels, up 329 percent from last year, and up 50 percent from 2005, also up 5 percent from the June forecast. According to a July 1 survey conducted by the Texas Field Office, statewide yield is expected to average 36 bushels per acre, up 12 bushels from last year and up 1 bushel from the June forecast. If realized this would tie the record yield of 36 set in 1999. Harvested acreage, at 4.0 million acres, is up 186 percent from 2006, and up 3 percent from June 1. Production on the Northern High Plains is forecast at 79.2 million bushels, up 431 percent from last year. Winter wheat production on the Low Plains is forecast at 29.6 million bushels, up 390 percent from last year. Blacklands production is estimated at 16.1 million bushels, up 124 percent from last year. Production on the Edwards Plateau is forecast at 4.5 million bushels, up 313 percent from the 2006 crop. United States winter wheat production for 2007 is forecast at 1.56 billion bushels, down 3 percent from last month but up 20 percent from 2006. Yield is expected to average 41.6 bushels per acre, down 1.6 bushels from last month and down 0.1 bushel from last year. Acreage to be harvested for grain is expected to total 37.6 million acres, up 21 percent from a year ago, and unchanged from the acreage report released on June 29, 2007. Date: 7/19/07
