Newell sheep sales report
St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 2,297 head July 12, compared to 447 head two weeks ago and 1,285 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Trends were not applicable as there was no sale last week and a light run two weeks ago. Attractive quality feeder lambs sold readily to buyers with good demand for most of the sale. Receipts included about 81% feeder lambs, 9% slaughter ewes, 5% slaughter lambs and the balance was bucks, miscellaneous sheep and a few goats. Slaughter lambs: Wooled. Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 127 to 129 lbs., 100.00 to 100.25 (100.14). Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 88 head, 166 lbs., 28.25. Good 3 to 4, 31 head, 225 lbs., 17.50. Utility 1 to 2, 29 head, 142 lbs., 26.00. Cull 1, 58 head, 131 lbs., 16.50. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 54 to 58 lbs., 112.75 to 114.50 (113.41); 60 to 65 lbs., 113.00 to 114.00 (113.44); 72 to 77 lbs., 112.25 to 113.75 (113.08); 80 to 89 lbs., 106.00 to 113.00 (112.17); 90 to 97 lbs., 107.50 to 110.75 (108.94); 15 head, 97 lbs., 102.50 short docks; 142 head, 103 lbs., 108.00; 8 head, 105 lbs., 99.75 full; 33 head, 116 lbs., 99.00; 32 head, 110 lbs., 96.00 blackface.
