Clinic held for 4-H, FFA membersColorado The Washington County Fairgrounds was packed full of livestock trailers, animals and 4-H and FFA families on June 23 for a Livestock Showing and Fitting Clinic. Sixty-nine participants were involved in the clinic. The clinic was held for 4-H and FFA members enrolled in beef, sheep, swine and goats to help them learn how to show and fit their animals in preparation for the county fair. Participants in the clinic were treated to hands-on, first-hand learning thanks to the help and expertise of four students from Northeastern Junior College. The NJC students are members of the judging team at the college in Sterling. Each of the four NJC judging team members presented information on the proper ways to prepare, wash, and feed animals in preparation for a show. The members also presented demonstrations on proper showmanship techniques. It was a full day for everyone with lunch and a snack served at respective intervals. The day ended with a Round Robin Showmanship contest for those desiring to enter. The four NJC presenters served as the judges. Three divisions were formed for the contest: Junior, Intermediate and Senior. A champion and reserve champion showman was selected in each division. The champion showmen were awarded wind jackets embroidered by Pauline Dennis and the reserve champion showmen were awarded fold-out chairs with honorary patches also embroidered by Pauline Dennis. The Fitting and Showing Clinic was hosted by the Washington County 4-H Council. Entry fee for the Clinic was $5 per person, which included clinic instruction, a T-shirt, and lunch. The clinic committee that made this day possible was made up of Kim Kraich, Bailey Kraich, Julie McCaleb, Rebekka McCaleb, Kim Harman, Kelsey Mann, Heather Amen, and Gisele Jefferson. A big thanks to the sponsors of this event: Frenzl Farms, Schramm Feedlot, Colorado Community Bank of Otis, Murdoch's Ranch and Home Supply, and the Washington County Livestock Sale Committee. It was great to see everyone come together to make a day such as this possible for our 4-H and FFA members. We look forward to making this an annual event. Approximately 45 youth competed in the Round Robin Showmanship contest held June 23 in Akron, Colo., as the culminating event at the Washington County 4-H/FFA Fitting and Showing Clinic. Earning the top showman awards in each of three age divisions were: Marissa Amos, Senior Champion; Caleb Christensen, Intermediate Champion; Cole Shaffer, Junior Champion; Jameson Johnson, Senior Reserve Champion; Rebekka McCaleb, Intermediate Reserve Champion; and Kylee Chapin, Junior Reserve Champion.
