Amarillo cattle sale newsThe Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 859 head July 17, compared to 896 head last week and 1,057 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers over 700 pounds were steady to $3 higher on a light test, under 700 pounds not enough for an adequate market test but a firm undertone was noted. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady on a light test. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 700- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade was moderate and demand moderate. Feeder cattle accounted for approximately 91% of the run with cows and bulls accounting for 9% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 50%, heifers 50%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds 49%. Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 327 lbs., 152.00; package 417 lbs., 139.00; two loads 829 lbs., 110.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 299 lbs., 134.50; 350 to 400 lbs., 133.00 to 134.00; 450 to 475 lbs., 118.00 to 125.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 106.00 to 113.50; load 774 lbs., 108.50.
