Amarillo cattle sale news

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 859 head July 17, compared to 896 head last week and 1,057 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers over 700 pounds were steady to $3 higher on a light test, under 700 pounds not enough for an adequate market test but a firm undertone was noted. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady on a light test. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 700- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade was moderate and demand moderate. Feeder cattle accounted for approximately 91% of the run with cows and bulls accounting for 9% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 50%, heifers 50%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds 49%.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 327 lbs., 152.00; package 417 lbs., 139.00; two loads 829 lbs., 110.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 299 lbs., 134.50; 350 to 400 lbs., 133.00 to 134.00; 450 to 475 lbs., 118.00 to 125.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 106.00 to 113.50; load 774 lbs., 108.50. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 425 to 475 lbs., 105.00 to 110.00; package 795 lbs., 103.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, package 315 lbs., 126.00; 400 to 410 lbs., 123.50 to 124.50; 500 to 510 lbs., 111.00 to 113.00; package 595 lbs., fleshy 102.00; package 695 lbs., calves 98.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 118.00 to 123.50; 400 to 500 lbs., 107.00 to 108.00; package 501 lbs., 106.00; package 647 lbs., 110.00; load 764 lbs., 105.00; Heiferette, part load 795 lbs., 93.50; part load 929 lbs., 91.50. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, package 397 lbs., 93.00; few 610 to 677 lbs., 97.50 to 99.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 46.00 to 51.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 51.00 to 54.50; high dressing, 55.75; low dressing, 49.00 to 49.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 50.50 to 53.00; low dressing, 47.00 to 48.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 45.50 to 47.50; low dressing, 42.50 to 43.00; 85 to 90% lean, 750 lbs., and down 35.00 to 41.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1350 to 2070 lbs., 64.00 to 67.50; low dressing, 1300 to 1900 lbs., 60.00 to 63.75.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle aged to aged, 900 to 1300 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred 640.00 to 750.00 per head.
