St. Onge livestock auction

The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 536 head June 22, compared to 758 head last week, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, feeder cattle not well tested. Feeder cows sold steady to $2 higher. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady. Slaughter bulls sold fully steady. Demand is moderate to good. Feeder receipts included 50% steers and 50% heifers. 53% weighed over 600 pounds. Receipts included about 7% feeder cattle, 62% replacement cows, 11% slaughter cows and bulls, 15% pairs with the balance feeder bulls, baby calves and other miscellaneous cattle.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 7 head, 594 lbs., 119.50; 10 head, 679 lbs., 111.25 calves.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 9 head, 567 lbs., 107.25; 8 head, 616 lbs., 106.50 calves.

Replacement females: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 4 years old, 725 to 1100 lbs 71.50 to 89.00.

Feeder cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young, 1075 to 1275 lbs 57.00 to 61.00; middle aged, 1150 to 1300 lbs., 53.50 to 56.00; aged, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 50.50 to 53.00. Large frame 1, 1400 to 1600 lbs., 50.50 to 55.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1235 to 1400 lbs., 50.75 to 51.50; low dressing, 45.00 to 46.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1065 to 1375 lbs., 47.50 to 51.25; low dressing, 47.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 46.00 to 49.00; low dressing, 43.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1430 to 2500 lbs., 62.25 to 66.50; high dressing, 67.00; low dressing, 57.50 to 61.50.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, price per pair, 1100 to 1350 lbs., with 180- to 300-lb. calves, 3 to 6 years old, mixed 1175.00 to 1300.00; 17 head, 1275 to 1300 lbs., with 180- to 200-lb. calves, solid, black whiteface 1025.00 to 1150.00; 1275 to 1300 lbs., with 150- to 220-lb. calves, broken, black whiteface 910.00 to 1100.00.
