Ft. Smith Livestock auction report

The Ft. Smith Livestock Auction, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 871 head June 25, compared to 777 head last week and 772 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows and bulls were $2 to $4 higher. Feeder steers were steady to $3 higher. Feeder heifers were steady to $2 lower. The supply included 450 feeder calves, 292 feeder yearlings, 32 replacement cows, 80 slaughter cows, 15 slaughter bulls, and 2 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 45% English breed and English crosses, 35% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 25% Brahma and Brahma crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other diary breeds. The feeder supply included about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers. Prices follow with weighted average price in parenthesis.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 48.00 to 52.50; high dressing, 53.00 to 57.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 42.00 to 47.50; high dressing, 48.00 to 52.00; low dressing, 36.00 to 41.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 46.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 51.00 to 55.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 45.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 60.00 to 64.00; high dressing, 65.00 to 70.50.
