Defoliate cotton near wheat

Growers of irrigated cotton face a unique problem come defoliation time: wheat growing outside irrigation circles.

And now they have a unique solution.

ET is a herbicide also registered as a cotton defoliant. Growers throughout the cotton Belt already defoliate with ET because it's inexpensive, it's fast, and it's effective. And it doesn't harm wheat.

"What ET does--defoliate cotton--is important. But what it doesn't do--like damage wheat--is almost as important to an aerial applicator like me," says Dan Kubal, owner of Kubal's Aerial in Levelland, Texas.

An important point, though, is that ET is not labeled for wheat in-season. Nichino America, Wilmington, Del., which manufactures ET, has tested ET on various grains--including wheat--and found little, if any, effect. The company expects to have an in-season label for wheat by late 2008. Until that's approved, though, ET should not be applied to wheat.

For more information, call 302-636-9001 or visit www.nichino.net.
