Beef Empire Days grandstand judging results

Kansas

The Grandstand Judging Contest was held at the midway point of the Beef Empire Days Live Show on May 31. Men, women and youth participated in this annual event, testing their knowledge of live animal judging, quality and yield grading, and live pricing.

In the youth division, the overall winner was Becca Landgraf of Lakin with 147 points. Bryce Landgraf of Lakin placed second and Jack Odom of Wellington, Texas, placed third.

In the women's division, Sabrina Branscum of Garden City was the overall winner with 161 points. Shari Lock of Garden City placed second and Marcy VenJohn of Ingalls placed third.

In the men's division, Ralph Danner of Muscatine, Iowa was the overall winner with 159 points. Kelly Kreikemeier of Dighton placed second; Keith Casey of Dighton and Mark Nelson of Ingalls tied for third place.

Along with the live grandstand judging, individuals traveled to Tyson Fresh Meats packing plant in Holcomb, Kan., for the carcass judging contest on June 2. Participants judged the quality and yield grade for the carcasses.
