Sioux Falls sheep sales
The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1,000 head July 9, compared to 786 head last week and 988 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold steady to firm. Good and Utility slaughter ewes sold mostly $3 to $5 higher on a light test. Cull ewes too few to test. Feeder lambs sold mostly steady to $2 higher on a light test. Receipts included about 57% slaughter lambs, 20% feeder lambs, 11% slaughter ewes and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep. Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 33 head, 125 lbs., 104.50; 130 to 143 lbs., 105.00; 8 head, 152 lbs., 106.25. Wooled Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 126 to 129 lbs., 104.00 to 105.00 (104.56); 131 to 142 lbs., 104.50 to 106.00 (105.40); 35 head, 151 lbs., 106.25. Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 117 to 120 lbs., 102.00 to 103.00 (102.55). Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 20 head, 134 to 158 lbs., 29.00 to 33.00 (29.95); 164 to 169 lbs., 28.00 to 33.50 (31.76). Good 2 to 4, 9 head, 185 to 195 lbs., 29.00 to 32.00 (30.03). Utility 1 to 2, 143 to 152 lbs., 26.00. Cull 1, 8 head, 110 to 143 lbs., 17.00 to 21.00 (18.77). Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 9 head, 57 lbs., 120.00; 20 head, 61 to 67 lbs., 113.00 to 116.00 (113.80); 71 to 76 lbs., 114.00 to 116.00 (115.13); 5 head, 86 lbs., 109.00; 10 head, 97 lbs., 106.00; 100 to 109 lbs., 99.00 to 109.00 (105.06). Medium and large frame 2, 13 head, 45 lbs., 108.00; 5 head, 56 lbs., 109.00; 61 to 64 lbs., 101.00 to 106.00 (103.32).
