Joplin regional cattle sales

The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, Mo., reported receipts of 5,100 head July 9, compared to 5,000 head last week and 7,600 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to two weeks ago, steers sold $3 to $6 higher. Heifers under 600 pounds sold $5 to $6 higher with heavier weights steady to $3 higher. Demand was very good for steers over 700 pounds and ready for the feedlot and 400-pound heifers. Quality very good on the heavy feeder cattle. High percentage of bulls in the lightweight calves. Prospects for a large corn crop has added strength to all classes of cattle. The supply included 41% steers, 45% heifers, 11% bulls and 46% of the cattle weighed over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 340 to 360 lbs., 135.00 to 141.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 124.00 to 130.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 118.00 to 129.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 110.00 to 122.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 109.00 to 115.10; 800 to 900 lbs., 106.75 to 113.35; 920 to 950 lbs., 104.75 to 107.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2 300 to 400 lbs., 125.00 to 139.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 116.00 to 127.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 109.00 to 120.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 106.00 to 118.00, lot thin 122.50; 700 to 820 lbs., 99.50 to 107.00. Large frame 1, 390 to 570 lbs., 114.00 to 117.00; lot 690 lbs., 106.50. Large frame 2, 440 to 590 lbs., 107.00 to 115.00.

Holstein steers: Large frame 3, 380 to 570 lbs., 83.00 to 90.00; 600 to 900 lbs., 80.00 to 84.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 299 to 337 lbs., 115.00 to 117.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 114.00 to 124.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 108.00 to 117.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 99.00 to 109.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 102.00 to 106.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 96.50 to 99.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 110.00 to 123.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 105.00 to 118.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 105.00 to 115.50; 600 to 725 lbs., 99.00 to 106.00, lot thin 110.00. Large frame 1, 435 to 500 lbs., 107.00 to 112.25; 530 to 620 lbs., 100.00 to 105.00. Large frame 2, 570 to 760 lbs., 93.00 to 103.50.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 114.00 to 126.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 105.00 to 113.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 104.50 to 110.00. Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 104.00 to 118.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 101.00 to 113.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 96.00 to 108.00.
