Ft. Smith cattle sales report

The Ft. Smith Livestock Auction, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 686 head July 9, compared to 572 head last week and 952 head last year, according to the Arkansas Extension Service, USDA Market News, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to two weeks ago, slaughter cows were $1 to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $2 to $3 higher. Feeder steers were $1 to $2 lower. Feeder heifers were $3 to $4 higher. The supply included 370 feeder calves, 171 feeder yearlings, 40 replacement cows, 92 slaughter cows, 9 slaughter bulls, and 4 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 35% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 25% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 49.00 to 53.50; high dressing, 54.00 to 58.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 44.00 to 48.50; high dressing, 49.00 to 54.00; low dressing, 36.00 to 43.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 47.00 to 51.50; high dressing, 52.00 to 56.00; low dressing, 42.00 to 46.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2200 lbs., 64.00 to 68.00; high dressing, 69.00 to 73.50.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 350 to 400 lbs., 130.00 to 144.00 (135.62); 400 to 450 lbs., 126.00 to 134.00 (129.16); 450 to 500 lbs., 120.00 to 126.00 (122.36); 500 to 550 lbs., 113.00 to 121.00 (115.74); 550 to 600 lbs., 110.00 to 116.00 (112.32); 600 to 650 lbs., 105.00 to 113.00 (109.68); 650 to 700 lbs., 102.50 to 108.50 (105.59). Medium and large frame 2, 350 to 400 lbs., 110.00 to 123.00 (117.71); 400 to 450 lbs., 110.00 to 121.00 (117.17); 500 to 550 lbs., 105.00 to 112.00 (109.16); 550 to 600 lbs., 100.00 to 105.00 (103.32); 600 to 650 lbs., 94.00 to 104.50 (101.89). Small 1 300 to 350 lbs., 80.00 to 112.50 (96.53); 350 to 400 lbs., 74.00 to 110.00 (92.12); 400 to 450 lbs., 65.00 to 90.00 (77.94).

Small frame 1, 400 to 450 lbs., 80.00 to 95.00 (87.59).

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 3 years old, 850 to 1100 lbs., open cows ,60.00 to 83.00; 3 to 7 years old, 850 to 1300 lbs., open cows, 52.00 to 59.00; 7+ years old, 700 to 1100 lbs., open cows, 43.00 to 53.00; 2 to 6 years old, 850 to 1100 lbs., first stage, 620.00 to 680.00 per head; 2 to 5 years old, 950 to 1150 lbs., second stage, 775.00 to 900.00 per head; 2 to 5 years old, 850 to 1400 lbs., third stage, 700.00 to 850.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 5 years old, 900 to 1400 lbs., with 175- to 300-lb. calves, 900.00 to 1200.00 per pair.
