DFA honored with prestigious cheese awards in 2006
Four Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. manufacturing plants recently won some of the dairy industry's most prestigious awards for cheese in 2006.
The DFA plant in Plymouth, Wis., was honored in November by the National Milk Producers Federation with a second place award for its reduced fat pasteurized processed American cheese food slices. The Plymouth plant also was awarded first place for its white American pasteurized process cheese food and second for its colored pasteurized cheese food (individually wrapped slices) at the 2006 World Dairy Expo Dairy Product Championship Contest in Madison, Wis., in October. All of these cheese products were produced for American Dairy Brands, a division of DFA.
In addition, DFA's Lovington, N.M., plant took home a second place award in the NMPF 2006 cheese contest. Lovington was awarded this honor for its natural Monterey Jack.
The DFA plant in Zumbrota, Minn., placed first in the World Dairy Expo contest for its high lactose whey, and DFA's New Wilmington plant in Pennsylvania earned a third place award at the same contest for its Provolone.
"We're pleased that our plants are getting recognition for the high quality of their products," says Rick Smith, DFA's president and chief executive officer. "Our members produce extremely high quality milk, and we, in turn, work hard to produce a superior cheese for our customers."
