Wyobraska cattle sales notesThe combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska, and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Jan. 20, totaled 5,300 head, compared to 10,400 head last week and 6,500 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo. Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, feeder steers and heifers under 700 pounds sold steady to $2 higher, not enough comparable sales on weights over 700 pounds for a good price comparison, few sales unevenly steady. In the direct trade feeder steers and heifers had no good price comparison. Direct trade was slow. Offerings were light to moderate. Demand was moderate. Buyer inquiry was moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 56% of the supply, heifers 44%, with 53% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 1400 head of the total receipts.
