Tulsa livestock sales report

The Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., reported receipts of 455 head Jan. 22, compared to 3,662 head last week and 2,326 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to two week ago, this was a very light test due to the winter weather conditions. Most people are struggling to provide for themselves and their cattle. Quality was mostly average to plain. Weigh-ups were average. The market reflected a lower undertones on steer and heifer calves. Receipts were comprised of 34% steers, 47% heifers, 19% bulls, with 16% of feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls firm to $3 higher. A total of 65 cows and bulls sold, with 52% going to slaughter.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 15 head, 350 to 395 lbs., 105.00 to 115.00 (111.04); 13 head, 405 to 439 lbs., 109.00 to 117.00 (114.54); 10 head, 453 to 483 lbs., 110.00 to 115.00 (111.62); 8 head, 550 to 590 lbs., 98.00 to 108.00 (105.19); 5 head, 690 to 692 lbs., 87.50 to 93.00 (90.80).

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 8 head, 510 to 541 lbs., 104.00 to 105.00 (104.24); 5 head, 570 to 585 lbs., 97.00 to 100.00 (99.40); 10 head, 607 to 640 lbs., 90.00 to 100.00 (96.52).

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 5 head, 375 to 398 lbs., 103.00 to 108.00 (103.96); 13 head, 405 to 444 lbs., 100.00 to 109.00 (103.72); 10 head, 450 to 485 lbs., 103.00 to 110.00 (105.18); 500 to 545 lbs., 90.00 to 101.00 (93.64); 10 head, 560 to 590 lbs., 84.00 to 93.00 (89.50). Medium and large frame 2, 8 head, 420 to 445 lbs., 89.50 to 95.00 (92.18); 12 head, 455 to 495 lbs., 73.00 to 94.00 (87.78).

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 5 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1400 lbs., 52.00 to 54.50; high dressing, 55.50; low dressing, 48.00 to 51.00. Boners, 15 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1150 to 1600 lbs., 51.00 to 53.50; low dressing, 46.00 to 49.50. Lean, 18 head, 85 to 90% lean, 975 to 1425 lbs., 47.50 to 52.00; low dressing, 43.00 to 46.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 3 head, 1675 to 1925 lbs., 62.00 to 63.00; high dressing, 68.00.
