Strong demand for all hay classesIn Kansas the hay trade was moderate. Demand strong for all types of stock cow quality hay, moderate to strong for grinding and dairy alfalfa, alfalfa pellets, brome, prairie hay and grass mulch, according to the Kansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jan. 23. Prices given on a per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted. Southwest: Dairy/grinding alfalfa steady. Movement moderate. Horse alfalfa, in small squares, supply tight, $180-$215; supreme dairy, $150-$170; premium, $150-$155. Utility/good grinding alfalfa, in the field or shipped in, $140-$150. Ground and delivered, $150-$165, some ground on the truck, $152-$156. Soybean stover-Sudan mix, ground and delivered, $100. For the week ending Jan. 13, 11,282 tons of grinding alfalfa and 1,442 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered. Cane, BMR Sudan and Millet, good, low nitrates, in large rounds, $70-$75; in medium and large squares, $85-$95. Good failed milo hay, in large squares, $75. Clean cornstalks, in large squares, $65. Cornstalks, in large rounds, $55. South central: Dairy/grinding alfalfa and alfalfa pellets steady. Movement moderate. Dairy alfalfa, supreme, $140-$165; premium, $125-$140; stock cow, $120-$140. Utility/fair grinding alfalfa, in the field, $115-$130. Ground and delivered, $130-$150. For the week ending Jan. 13, 3,957 tons of grinding alfalfa and 825 tons of dairy alfalfa were delivered. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15 and 17% protein, $160-$170; dehydrated 17% protein, $180. CRP grass, in large squares, $75.
