Springfield dairy heifer sale

The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported 570 head Jan. 23, compared to 779 head last month and 1,020 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

This was a special dairy heifer sale. Demand was moderate. The supply was light probably due to the recent ice storm. Included were 5% springer heifers, 10% bred heifers, 25% open heifers, 2% fresh cows, 10% milking cows, 5% bred and springer cows, and 7% calves. Holsteins unless noted otherwise. Prices per head.

Springer heifers: Bred seven to nine months, Approved 1350.00 to 1725.00; Medium 925.00 to 1275.00; Crossbreds 770.00 to 850.00; Common 650.00 to 880.00. Heifers bred three to six months, Supreme 1740.00 to 1860.00; Approved 1225.00 to 1735.00; Medium 810.00 to 1040.00, Crossbreds 720.00 to 950.00; Common 510.00 to 700.00. Heifers bred one to three months, Approved 1500.00 to 1580.00; Medium 900.00 to 1130.00.

Open heifers: Approved 220 to 278 lbs., 570.00 to 650.00, Crossbreds 190.00 to 350.00; 415 to 466 lbs., 800.00 to 840.00. Medium 200 to 300 lbs., 245.00 to 300.00; 413 to 455 lbs., 600.00 to 650.00, Crossbreds 320.00 to 470.00; 505 to 585 lbs., Crossbreds 400.00 to 680.00.

Replacement cows: Fresh cows, Medium, few 975.00 to 1000.00, Crossbreds 800.00 to 1080.00.

Milking cows: Common 510.00 to 880.00, Crossbreds 510.00 to 750.00.

Springer cows: Bred seven to nine months, Approved Jerseys 1225.00 to 1300.00, Individual Crossbred 1240.00; Medium 950.00 to 1170.00, Jerseys 775.00 to 1025.00; Common 630.00 to 930.00, Jerseys 340.00 to 630.00. Cows bred one to six months, Approved Jerseys 1235.00 to 1310.00, Individual Crossbred 1260.00; Medium Jerseys 700.00 to 870.00; Common 600.00 to 790.00.

Baby calves: Holstein heifers 170.00 to 420.00. Holstein bulls 95.00 to 160.00. Jersey bulls 25.00 to 45.00. Crossbred bulls 165.00 to 215.00.
