Soybean Association elects officers, announces award recipients

The Nebraska Soybean Association elected its 2007 officers and directors during their annual meeting held in Kearney on Dec. 13, 2006. The second annual Nebraska Ag Classic was the setting for the annual meeting of NSA as well as the presentation of the service awards.

Bill Miller of Upland, Neb., was re-elected to serve as NSA president. Miller will begin his second term as president and oversee the functions of the state organization. This is his second year of a two-year term.

Debbie Borg of Allen, Neb., was re-elected vice president. Borg serves as the District 1 state director. Jim Stewart, Lincoln, Neb., was re-elected to serve as treasurer and he currently serves as the District 10 director. Also re-elected to serve as secretary of NSA was Alan Zoucha, Carleton, Neb., who represents District 11.

Chairman of the Association is past president, Jim Miller, Belden, Neb. Miller serves as an advisor to the Executive Committee and will represent NSA in various capacities throughout the year.

Elected to a first year term as a state director was Jason Lavene, Bertrand representing District 3. Re-elected as district directors were Rodney Smith of DeWitt, representing District 9; Jim Stewart, Lincoln, representing District 10 and Alan Zoucha, Carleton, representing District 11. Appointed during a November board meeting to serve as director for District 7 was Geoff Ruth of Rising City.

Receiving NSA's 2006 Soybean Promoter Award during the awards ceremony was Roy Smith of Plattsmouth, Neb. In the late 1970s Roy was involved in various leadership roles of the state and national soybean associations. He has been instrumental in developing soybean marketing strategies and continues to present marketing strategies workshops throughout the year. This award is presented annually to recognize and thank an individual who has shown outstanding leadership and given many hours of their time to the betterment of the soybean industry.

Receiving the 2006 top membership recruiter award was Jim Miller of Belden. Miller has been a top state and national membership recruiter since 2000.
