Pork producers to host winter pork picnic in Des MoinesIowa Iowa pork producers want to say "thank you" to the Iowa consumers who purchase their products by hosting their annual Winter Pork Picnic Wednesday, Jan. 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Capital Square in downtown Des Moines. The public is invited to enjoy the "free" pork lunch, sponsored by the Iowa Pork Producers Association. The Winter Pork Picnic is held annually in conjunction with the Iowa Pork Congress, which brings approximately 5,000 Iowa and Midwest pork producers to Des Moines. Iowa pork producers will be grilling and serving 2,800 delicious ground pork and bacon burgers to celebrate the Iowa pork industry. In addition to the ground pork and bacon burgers, consumers will receive chips, pop and ice cream. The Iowa Pork Producers Association will again be teaming up with the Food Bank of Iowa and asking for donations at the Winter Pork Picnic to support feeding Iowa's hungry. All proceeds will be donated directly to the Food Bank of Iowa. Companies participating in the Winter Pork Picnic include Fareway Stores, Webster City Custom Meats, Sara Lee, Cookies Food Products, Frito Lay, Pepsi Americas and Wells Blue Bunny.
