Nebraska students tour Taiwan

Nebraska

Three Nebraska youths are currently visiting Taiwan to learn about the country's agricultural industry.

The visit is part of an exchange program between Taiwan and Nebraska that began in 2004. In July, three Taiwanese students attended the Nebraska Agriculture Youth Institute, coordinated by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture. During NAYI, the director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office invited three NAYI delegates to tour Taiwan.

NDA Director Greg Ibach hopes the student exchange program will continue, and will benefit agriculture in both countries.

The students left for Taiwan on Dec. 14 and will return to Nebraska on Dec. 22. During their Taiwan visit, the students will stay at an agricultural high school. They will tour the campus, meet with Taiwanese students, attend a conference on agricultural education, visit area farms and observe several agricultural research institutes.

The students will share their experiences in Taiwan with the delegates of the 2007 NAYI.

The students include:

--Nora Spath from North Bend. She is a senior at North Bend High School and is involved in FFA and other extra curricular activities. Nora's parents are Jim and Mary Spath.

--Britni Korth from Randolph. She is a senior at Randolph High School and is involved in FFA and is her senior class president. Britni's parents are Rick and Sue Korth.

--Tyler Pieper from Farnum. He is a senior at Eustis-Farnum High School and is involved in 4-H and FFA. Tyler's parents are C. Kent and Marilyn Pieper.

NDA, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Kansas City and the Nebraska Farm Bureau Federation are sponsoring the trip.
