Wyobraska cattle sales notes

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Feb. 17, totaled 7,900 head, compared to 7,400 head last week and 3,600 head last years, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $2 higher except steers over 700 pounds were steady to $1 lower. Demand was moderate to good. In the direct trade not enough comparable sales of feeder steers and heifers for good price comparison, few comparable sales steers sales were steady, and heifers were $2 higher. Direct trade was slow. Offerings were light to moderate. Demand was moderate. Buyer inquiry is moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 59% of the supply, heifers 41% with 72% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 2800 head of the total receipts.
