Springfield cattle sales report
The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 3,200 head Feb. 21, compared to 1,142 head last week and 2,001 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to a light test last week, steers under 550 pounds were $2 to $4 higher, heifers under 600 pounds were $4 to $6 higher, steers over 550 pounds and heifers over 600 pounds were steady to $2 higher. Demand was moderate to good, supply heavy. Flesh conditions ran the full range of thin to fleshy. Several consignments of wean-vac calves were offered, as well as several new crop calves in the mix. The feeder supply included 40% steers, 7% Holsteins, 43% heifers, 9% bulls, with 47% over 600 pounds.
