OKC West cattle salesThe OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla, reported receipts of 7,791 head Feb. 21, compared to 2,414 head last week and 3,109 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, feeder steers were steady to $2 higher, except over 850 pounds were $1 to $2 lower. Stocker steers and steer calves were $2 to $5 higher. Feeder heifers over 700 pounds were $1 to $2 lower, stocker heifers and heifer calves under 700 pounds were $2 to $5 higher. Demand was very good for thin fleshed grazing cattle, moderate to good for feeders. Quality was average to attractive with several large strings of black hided cattle. Feeder cattle in medium to fleshy conditions. Weigh-ups average to full. Slaughter cows and bulls were $1 to $2 higher. Packer demand was very good, especially for the thinner fleshed cows. A total of 367 cows and bulls sold with 60% going to packers. The supply consisted of 84% over 600 pounds, 11% under 600 pounds, 5% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 36% of the feeder and calf supply.
