Nebraska 4-Hers have two new statewide leadership opportunitiesNebraska Two special statewide leadership opportunities for Nebraska 4-H youth are now available. The Youth Curriculum Committee and Youth Multimedia Team will give 4-Hers, 14 and older, a chance to connect with other 4-H youth with similar interests across the state, said Patricia Fairchild, 4-H youth development curriculum specialist. "These opportunities will assist with the retention of 4-H members as they grow throughout the program, while also providing youth a voice in the future planning of educational opportunities and initiatives," Fairchild said. The Youth Curriculum Committee, under Fairchild's direction, is seeking young leaders from across the state. The committee will give youth a voice in 4-H curriculum decisions such as selecting new project manuals, revising outdated materials, reviewing technology components, promoting new curriculum in counties and much more, said Michelle Garwood, curriculum graduate student. For more information about this program, contact Garwood at 402-472-9184, e-mail mgarwood2@unl.edu. The Youth Multimedia Team is seeking 4-Hers who are interested in multimedia, including the use of text, audio, still images, animation, video and interactivity, in technology and communication, said Tracy Pracheil, Extension educator, 4-H youth development. Youth will gain new skills, serve communities by completing projects and showcase to others the emerging technologies in the area of multimedia communication, all while promoting Nebraska 4-H program opportunities, Pracheil said. The group will be guided by the leadership of the 4-H Action Team and the Communications and Expressive Arts workgroup. For more information, contact Pracheil at 402-472-9016, e-mail tpracheil2@unl.edu. The Nebraska 4-H website at http://4h.unl.edu also has more information about these opportunities. Youth are encouraged to apply for only one of the opportunities. The application consists of an online application form, a creative application questionnaire, and a nomination signature form signed by the applicant, his or her parent/guardian and a UNL Extension county staff member. Applications will be accepted through March 1. B 7 2/26/07 4 Star NE Date: 2/21/07
