Springfield livestock sales
The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 2,237 head Dec. 19, compared to 1,631 head last week and 1,559 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steers were steady to $3 higher, Holsteins were $2 to $4 lower on a light test, heifers under 600 pounds were $4 to $7 higher, over 600 pounds were steady to $3 higher. Demand was moderate to good, supply moderate. Weigh-ups favoring the sellers side. A special Wean-Vac sale was held in conjunction with the regular feeder cattle sale. The feeder supply included 48% steers, 4% Holsteins, 42% heifers, 6% bulls, with 53% over 600 pounds. This is the last sale of 2007. Next sale will be Jan. 2, 2008.
