Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 1,485 head Dec. 20, compared to 1,251 head last week and 1,257 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter ewes sold $1 to $2 lower in a light test. Feeder lambs sold $8 to $10 lower with quality less attractive than last week. Receipts were comprised of about 93% feeder lambs, 7% slaughter ewes with the balance miscellaneous sheep and goats. This will be the last sale for 2007. Sales will resume Jan. 10. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 37 head, 155 lbs., 31.50. Good 3 to 4, 9 head, 210 lbs., 19.50. Utility 1 to 2, 8 head, 158 lbs., 28.50. Cull 1, 42 head, 129 lbs., 13.25. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 45 head, 51 lbs., 122.00; 63 to 65 lbs., 125.00 to 127.00 (126.18); 70 to 76 lbs., 116.50 to 119.50 (118.01); 83 to 89 lbs., 106.50 to 111.50 (108.55); 95 to 96 lbs., 103.75 to 104.25 (104.15); 13 head, 96 lbs., 91.00 fleshy; 103 to 108 lbs., 99.00 to 99.75 (99.55). Small frame 2, 22 head, 57 lbs., 51.00 hair sheep. Slaughter bucks: 20 head, 263 lbs., 23.75 fleshy. Replacement ewes: Large frame 1 to 2, bred white face, lamb current through April, price per head, 55 head, 164 to 169 lbs., years-solid 90.00 to 102.00; 19 head, 189 lbs., 4 years-broken 67.50.
