Sioux Falls sheep salesThe Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1,158 head Dec. 17, compared to 1,035 head last week and 1,608 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold steady. An accurate trend on slaughter ewes was not applicable due to light receipts last week, however a higher undertone prevailed. Feeder lambs were steady to $2 lower. Demand was moderate to good, with a noticeable increase in slaughter ewe demand. Receipts were nearly 61% slaughter lambs, 14% slaughter ewes and 12% feeder lambs the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep. This is the last sheep auction of the year. Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 17 head, 124 lbs., 92.75; 42 head, 140 lbs., 93.25. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 121 to 128 lbs., 88.50 to 90.75 (89.71); 134 to 147 lbs., 88.00 to 90.00 (89.26); 7 head, 156 lbs., 89.00. Wooled Choice and Prime 3 to 4, 132 head, 152 lbs., 87.75. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 17 head, 149 lbs., 36.50; 161 to 178 lbs., 35.00 to 38.50 (36.87). Utility 1 to 2, 131 to 157 lbs., 28.00 to 31.25 (29.82). Ewes, Cull 1, 5 head, 123 lbs., 20.00; 7 head, 113 lbs., 22.00. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 12 head, 67 lbs., 119.00; 6 head, 71 lbs., 112.00; 92 to 96 lbs., 90.50 to 96.50 (93.01); 5 head, 102 lbs., 95.00. Medium and large frame 2, 5 head, 59 lbs., 81.00; 19 head, 91 lbs., 86.50. Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 12 head, 39 lbs., 94.00; 8 head, 48 lbs., 93.00; 51 to 53 lbs., 95.00 to 97.00 (96.50); 62 to 68 lbs., 90.00 to 97.00 (95.49); 74 to 77 lbs., 91.00 to 97.00 (95.69).
