Rounds wants farm bill actionPIERRE, S.D. (AP)--Gov. Mike Rounds says a new federal farm bill needs to be passed this year. He says the current lull in farm bill talks in Washington is not in the best interest of South Dakotans and that merely extending the existing legislation would be inadequate. The governor calls farm bill a comprehensive measure that affects everyone in the state. Rounds says South Dakota's farmers and ranchers face enough uncertainty because of markets, the weather and other factors and that the U.S. Senate should not add to that by delaying timely consideration of the 2007 farm bill.
