OPSU bull test half completed

The beef bulls in the 56th Annual OPSU Beef Performance Test were weighed Dec. 8. Halfway through the 112-day testing period, the bulls have an average daily gain of 4.16 lbs. and a weight-per-day-of-age of 3.17 lbs. The bulls complete the 112 day test Feb. 2, 2008, and the top 70 head will sell in the 56th Annual Performance Tested sale, Feb. 25, 2008.

Larry Weinkauf, Orlando, has the top two junior age bulls with ADG's of 5.73 and 5.64 lbs. B&M Angus, Edmond, has the third ranked junior with an ADG of 5.25 lbs. This bull is sired by Spur Success 2801. Phil Light's bulls (20-1, sired by Mitty in Focus; 22-1 sired by N-Bar Prime Time D-806; 21-2 sired by Morgans Direction III 9901) rank 4th, 5th and 6th on ADG's of 5.13, 5.09 and 5.02 lbs. respectively.

Larry Weinkauf's pens 29 and 30, with three Angus bulls each, are the two top junior bull pens with ADG's of 5.05 and 4.92 lbs, respectively. Phil Light's pen 20, four Angus bulls sired by Mitty in Focus, is third with an ADG of 4.70 lbs. Phil also has the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th ranked pen of junior bulls.

In the senior age bull division, Tim Meier, Hitchcock, Okla. has the top bull with an ADG of 5.54 lbs. on an Angus sired by GAR New Design 9391. B&M Angus has the 2nd and 3rd ranked senior bulls with ADG's of 5.45 and 5.39 lbs., respectively. One of these bulls is a son of Hyline Right Time 338 and the other a son of Rito 2VI of 2536 1407. The fourth place senior is an Angus consigned by M&S Cattle Co. of Dover, Okla. This bull, with a gain of 5.38 lbs. per day, is a son of Bon View New Design 1407.

In the senior age pen division, B&M Angus leads the way with an ADG of 5.01 lbs. There are three sires represented in this pen: Boyd on Target 1083, Spur Success 2801 and Rito 2VI of 2536 1407. B&M Angus's pen 19 is second with an ADG of 4.84 lbs. Stedje Livestock of Gruver, Texas has the third ranked senior pen with an ADG of 4.67 lbs. on four Angus bulls.
