OKC West livestock sales report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 4,140 head Dec. 19, compared to 426 head last week and 1,053 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to the last test of two weeks ago, feeder steers were $3 to $5 lower. Feeder heifers were lightly tested and $1 to $2 lower. Steer calves were $2 to $5 lower. Heifer calves over 500 pounds were $1 to $2 lower, under 500 pounds were $2 to $3 higher. Calf market was definitely better than last week's lower weather market but not fully recovering the losses. Feeder market continued on a downhill slide as corn prices push higher. Feedlots also pretty full. Feeder cattle were in medium to fleshy conditions. Weigh-ups were average to many full. The supply consisted of 55% over 600 pounds, 35% under 600 pounds and 10% cows and bulls. The total receipts included 39% heifers. Slaughter cows and bulls were $2 to $3 higher. Packer demand was good as many markets will be closed for the holidays and they were needing to meet 2 week kill requirements. A total of 400 cows and bulls sold with 59% going to packers.
