Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 1,251 head Dec. 13, compared to 2,287 head last week and 2,239 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter ewes sold $4 to $8 higher. Feeder lambs under 85 pounds sold $12 to $18 higher in a limited test, and all other weights were not well tested. Buyers' activity was very aggressive with a relatively smaller run as total weight influenced the market. Receipts were comprised of about 75% feeder lambs, 22% slaughter ewes with the balance miscellaneous sheep and goats. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 70 head, 168 lbs., 34.25. Good 3 to 4, 7 head, 224 lbs., 21.00. Utility 1 to 2, 55 head, 150 lbs., 32.25. Cull 1, 92 head, 132 lbs., 18.50. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 73 head, 49 lbs., 138.00; 341 head, 63 lbs., 140.00 to 140.50 (140.31); 21 head, 73 lbs., 124.50; 81 to 85 lbs., 117.75 to 119.75 (118.48); 90 to 92 lbs., 104.50 to 108.00 (105.18); 16 head, 109 lbs., 90.75 fleshy. Small and medium frame 2, 17 head, 64 lbs., 104.00; 131 head, 83 lbs., 100.50. Medium frame 2, 25 head, 45 lbs., 110.00. Replacement ewes: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, bred black whiteface, lamb April 1, price per head, 65 head, 156 lbs., solid to short term 55.00.
