Joplin regional cattle salesThe Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, Mo., reported receipts of 4,000 head Dec. 18, compared to 8,208 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Receipts were compared to two weeks ago due to the ice storm last week, steers and heifers sold $5 to $10 lower. Higher corn prices, lower packer bids and winter weather conditions helped fuel the sharp decline in prices. Quality was very good on the top end cattle. Demand and supply were moderate. Several cattle carrying extra flesh. The supply included 49% steers, 43% heifers, 7% bulls and 47% of the cattle weighed over 600 pounds. Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 450 lbs., 114.00 to 126.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 110.00 to 116.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 102.00 to 114.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 94.00 to 100.75, lot fancy 611 lbs., 102.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 91.50 to 97.50; 800 to 850 lbs., 94.00 to 97.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 114.00 to 123.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 106.00 to 114.50, lot thin 117.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 99.00 to 105.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 92.00 to 96.00; few 750 to 805 lbs., 92.00 to 92.50. Large frame 1, 500 to 735 lbs., 92.00 to 99.00. Holstein steers: Large frame 3, lot 666 lbs., 74.00. Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 95.50 to 102.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 92.00 to 102.00, fancy 552 lbs., 108.00; 600 to 740 lbs., 90.00 to 96.00, fleshy 86.00 to 92.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 96.00 to 111.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 91.50 to 98.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 89.00 to 97.00; 600 to 805 lbs., 82.00 to 92.50.
