Apache cattle sales report

Stockman's Livestock Inc., Apache, Okla., reported receipts of 948 head Dec. 15, compared to 3,050 head last week and 4,300 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, winter weather severely reduced receipts. Ice storms hit the state earlier in the week and icy conditions continued. Feeder cattle and calves were not well tested, although a weaker undertone was noted for calves. A limited number of feeder cattle sold and these to good demand. Calf demand was moderate to good. Slaughter cows and bulls were lightly tested and steady. Packer demand was moderate to good for lighter receipts. A total of 137 cows and bulls sold with 54% going to packers. This will be the last sale of the year. The next sale will be January 4, 2008.

Lean, 27 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1375 lbs., 43.00 to 45.00; high dressing, 46.00 to 47.00; low dressing, 35.50 to 42.00. Lights, 15 head, 75 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 31.50 to 38.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 8 head, 1400 to 1800 lbs., 55.00 to 58.50; low dressing, 50.00 to 53.50
