Amarillo livestock sales

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas., reported receipts of 749 head Dec. 18, compared to 428 head last week and 730 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers under 600 pounds trading mostly steady where adequately tested, with 400 to 500 pound heifers instances were $3 to $4 higher than last week's weather influenced market. Over 600 pounds limited test and few comparable sales last week with a weaker undertone noted. Yearlings have been extremely scarce the previous few weeks due to weather related problems. Slaughter cows and bulls were firm to $1 higher on a light test. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 600-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate. Feeder cattle accounted for 90% and slaughter cows and bulls 10% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up 46% of the run heifers 54%, steers and heifer over 600 pounds totaled 50%.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 129.00 to 136.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 114.00 to 124.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 102.00 to 109.50; 600 to 700 lbs., calves 90.00 to 99.00, lot 663 lbs., yearlings 94.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 468 lbs., 98.00; 500 to 600 lbs., few 97.00 to 108.00; 600 to 650 lbs., calves few 92.00 to 94.00; package 753 lbs., calves 91.50.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 90.00 to 113.00; package 550 lbs., 102.00; package 665 lbs., 94.00; package 740 lbs., 94.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., few 108.00 to 114.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 97.00 to 111.00; 500 to 600 lbs., few 94.00 to 97.00; 600 to 650 lbs., calves few 93.50 to 94.00; lot 673 lbs., full calves 90.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 500 lbs., 97.00 to 103.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 94.00 to 97.00; 600 to 700 lbs., calves few packages 92.00; load 716 lbs., 99.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 43.25 to 45.50; low dressing, 41.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 44.00 to 46.00; low dressing, 41.00 to 43.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 43.00 to 45.00; high dressing, 46.50 to 48.50; low dressing, 40.00 to 42.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 35.00 to 40.00; low dressing, 30.00 to 35.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1200 to 1900 lbs., individual 58.50; low dressing, 1100 to 1400 lbs., 53.50 to 56.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle aged, 900 to 1100 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred 680.00 to 750.00 per head; middle aged, 900 to 1100 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred 590.00 to 670.00 per head; aged, 800 to 900 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred 450.00 to 510.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle aged to aged, 800 to 950 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves 770.00 per pair.
