Wyobraska cattle sales report

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska, western North and South Dakota for the week ending Dec. 8, totaled 7,150 head, compared to 8,100 head last week and 5,800 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions, steer calves under 700 pounds sold steady to $2 lower, instances were $3 lower, heifer calves under 600 pounds were $1 to $3 lower; yearlings were not well tested. Demand was moderate to good. Overall quality was not nearly as attractive as in past weeks. Direct trading was slow. There were not enough comparable sales for a market trend. Demand was moderate. Buyer inquiry was moderate. Offerings were light to moderate with yearling cattle in short supply. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 53% of the supply, heifers 47%, with 42% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 2100 head of the total receipts.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 275 lbs., 140.00; 320 to 360 lbs., 131.00 to 140.00; 425 lbs., 127.00; 480 to 490 lbs., 116.00 to 123.00; 500 to 530 lbs., 112.50 to 120.00; 565 to 590 lbs., 108.00 to 110.50. Medium and large frame 2, 290 lbs., 121.00. Large frame 2, Holsteins, 385 lbs., 70.00. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 650 lbs., 112.00; 750 to 850 lbs., 109.00 to 110.00. Delivered price, 750 lbs., 114.00.
