St. Onge livestock sales report

The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 2,569 head Dec. 7, compared to 2,775 head last week and 3,578 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, steer calves sold mixed with majority trending mostly steady, however calves over 600 pounds sold $1 to $3 lower. Heifer calves sold steady to $2 higher with most of the higher market on calves over 550 pounds. Feeding cows sold mostly steady to firm. Slaughter cows and bulls sold mostly steady. Demand was moderate to good. The feeder supply was comprised of 50% steers and 50% heifers with 32% over 600 pounds. Receipts included about 58% feeders, 17% feeding cows, 2% slaughter cows and bulls, 20% bred females with the balance other miscellaneous cattle.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 7 head, 372 lbs., 141.00; 438 to 447 lbs., 127.00 to 133.00 (129.61); 479 to 480 lbs., 124.00 to 129.50 (128.83); 502 to 548 lbs., 112.50 to 120.00 (117.17); 512 to 539 lbs., 106.00 to 112.00 (110.16) fleshy; 552 to 599 lbs., 111.25 to 119.00 (113.32); 601 to 641 lbs., 104.00 to 111.75 (110.15) calves; 652 to 683 lbs., 100.00 to 105.00 (102.44) calves; 13 head, 735 to 736 lbs., 103.00 to 104.00 (103.69) calves; 24 head, 751 lbs., 102.75) calves. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 head, 553 lbs., 105.00; 12 head, 601 lbs., 101.00 calves.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 6 head, 337 lbs., 126.00; 13 head, 396 lbs., 122.00; 400 to 448 lbs., 118.00 to 121.00 (119.56); 474 to 494 lbs., 108.00 to 114.50 (111.06); 503 to 536 lbs., 108.00 to 115.00 (111.56); 551 to 596 lbs., 102.00 to 107.50 (104.21); 601 to 636 lbs., 98.50 to 104.25 (101.46) calves; 21 head, 651 lbs., 97.50) calves; 5 head, 700 lbs., 96.00 calves; 8 head, 1065 lbs., 89.50 fleshy. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 6 head, 382 lbs., 111.00; 18 head, 438 lbs., 113.00; 17 head, 506 to 543 lbs., 104.00 to 108.00 (106.76); 15 head, 574 lbs., 100.00. Large frame 1, 5 head, 511 lbs., 99.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, 7 head, 966 lbs., 83.00.

Feeding cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heiferettes, 875 to 1125 lbs., 74.00 to 89.00; 3 to 4 years old, 950 to 1150 lbs., 68.00 to 72.00; young, 1150 to 1300 lbs., 53.50 to 66.00; middle-aged, 1050 to 1350 lbs., 46.00 to 52.00; aged, 1000 to 1375 lbs., 41.00 to 45.50, full 35.00 to 40.50. Large frame 1, 1380 to 1620 lbs., 43.50 to 48.75, full 41.50 to 42.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1350 to 1675 lbs., 44.75 to 47.00; low dressing, 40.25 to 43.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1050 to 1750 lbs., 39.50 to 43.50; high dressing, 47.50; low dressing, 33.00 to 35.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1350 lbs., 36.50 to 40.50; high dressing, 41.50; low dressing, 31.00 to 34.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1525 to 2100 lbs., 51.25 to 55.25; high dressing, 58.00; low dressing, 50.00 to 51.25.

Bred heifers: Medium and large frame 1, bred black-red, calve March to May, price per head, 74 head, 930 to 1000 lbs., black-black whiteface-red 1040.00 to 1125.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, bred black red-charolais, calve March to May, price per head, 22 head, 1440 to 1575 lbs., 3 years to solid, black-black whiteface-Charolais, 740.00 to 900.00; 120 head, 1100 to 1400 lbs., solid to broken, black-black whiteface-red, 510.00 to 660.00.
