Springfield livestock sales

The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 4,560 head Dec. 5, compared to 3,882 head last week and 1,665 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers under 550 pounds were steady to $2 higher, 550 to 700 pounds were $3 to $6 lower, over 700 pounds were $1 to $3 lower. Holsteins under 700 pounds were $5 to $10 lower, over 700 pounds were $1 to $3 lower. Heifers under 600 pounds were $3 to $6 lower, over 600 pounds were $1 to $2 lower. Demand was moderate to light, supply heavy. Heavy receipts of calves and feeder cattle being reported across the country adding pressure to the market. A good percentage of Wean-Vac calves were in the offering as a Special Wean-Vac sale was held in conjunction with the regular feeder cattle auction. The feeder supply included 41% steers, 6% Holsteins, 42% heifers, 11% bulls, with 45% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 350 to 400 lbs., 134.00 to 137.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 125.00 to 131.00, 450 to 500 lbs., 116.00 to 128.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 104.00 to 120.00, lot 511 lbs., 125.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 101.00 to 111.00, calves 92.00 to 106.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 100.00 to 110.00, calves 99.00 to 101.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 101.00 to 103.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 250 to 300 lbs., 126.00 to 129.00; 350 to 400 lbs., 121.00 to 129.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 110.00 to 127.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 100.00 to 112.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 95.00 to 104.00, calves 93.00 to 100.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 95.50 to 106.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 97.00 to 102.50.

Holsteins: Large frame 3, package 383 lbs., 90.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 75.00 to 94.00, package thin 70.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 70.00 to 80.00; 700 to 755 lbs., 75.00 to 77.50; lot 838 lbs., 76.50.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 105.00 to 114.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 96.00 to 110.00, 450 to 500 lbs., 94.00 to 104.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 91.00 to 104.50, fleshy 85.50 to 92.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 90.00 to 101.50; lot 734 lbs., 91.00; 800 to 860 lbs., 93.50 to 97.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 400 lbs., 100.00 to 101.00, thin 104.00 to 116.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 85.00 to 96.00, thin 91.00 to 98.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 87.50 to 98.00, fleshy 85.00 to 86.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 89.00 to 95.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 93.00 to 95.50.
