Springfield livestock sales
The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Mo., reported receipts of 4,560 head Dec. 5, compared to 3,882 head last week and 1,665 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steers under 550 pounds were steady to $2 higher, 550 to 700 pounds were $3 to $6 lower, over 700 pounds were $1 to $3 lower. Holsteins under 700 pounds were $5 to $10 lower, over 700 pounds were $1 to $3 lower. Heifers under 600 pounds were $3 to $6 lower, over 600 pounds were $1 to $2 lower. Demand was moderate to light, supply heavy. Heavy receipts of calves and feeder cattle being reported across the country adding pressure to the market. A good percentage of Wean-Vac calves were in the offering as a Special Wean-Vac sale was held in conjunction with the regular feeder cattle auction. The feeder supply included 41% steers, 6% Holsteins, 42% heifers, 11% bulls, with 45% over 600 pounds.
