Sioux Falls sheep sales
The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1,536 head Dec. 10, compared to 868 head last week and 1,121 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, after opening $1 to instances $2 lower, slaughter lambs closed $2 to instances $3 lower. Slaughter ewes were too few to test. No trends were applicable to feeder lambs due to light receipts last week, however a firm undertone was noted. Demand was moderate to good. Receipts were nearly 42% slaughter lambs, 38% feeder lambs and 5% slaughter ewes the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep. Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 141 to 147 lbs., 89.00 to 93.25 (92.02). Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 126 to 127 lbs., 88.50 to 89.00 (88.94); 130 to 148 lbs., 88.25 to 90.75 (89.06); 151 to 156 lbs., 88.00 to 89.25 (88.81). Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 19 head, 166 to 188 lbs., 25.50 to 26.00 (25.75). Good 3 to 4, 5 head, 226 lbs., 21.00. Utility 1 to 2, 8 head, 150 lbs., 22.50. Cull 1, 7 head, 124 lbs., 10.00; 5 head, 101 lbs., 11.00. Feeder lambs: Medium and Large 1 to 2, 91 head, 53 lbs., 122.00; 19 head, 81 lbs., 100.25; 90 to 96 lbs., 94.00 to 95.75 (95.41); 101 to 107 lbs., 91.00 to 95.50 (93.07); 110 lbs., 89.75. Medium and large frame 2, 17 head, 39 lbs., 107.00; 6 head, 53 lbs., 87.00; 17 head, 93 lbs., 84.50. Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 27 head, 32 lbs., 90.00; 18 head, 44 to 49 lbs., 94.00 to 99.00 (95.79); 51 to 59 lbs., 91.00 to 100.00 (97.74); 62 to 65 lbs., 97.00 to 100.00 (99.44); 73 to 79 lbs., 97.50 to 105.00 (101.65).
